The role of the family advocate is to support the family as they navigate the forensic interview and medical process. These processes are a part of a much larger criminal investigative process. When a family comes to the CAC they are greeted by an advocate and caregivers have the opportunity to meet with an advocate one-on-one to learn about different services and resources available. Advocacy services include:
- Crisis intervention
- Individual support
- Referrals to counseling services
- Referrals to forensic medical exams
- Additional referrals as needed
- Information about community resources
- Information about victim rights and the criminal justice process
- Assistance applying for victim’s compensation
- Support group for non-offending caregivers
- Follow-up services
