Prepare For Your Visit

If your child has a forensic interview scheduled at the Child Advocacy Center, you and your child may be wondering what to expect and how best to prepare for your visit.

The complete interview process takes approximately 1-2 hours (this time may vary depending on how many children are being interviewed).
The forensic interview is conducted in a child friendly environment by an interviewer with specialized training. If you have multiple children being interviewed, the interviewer will be talking to each child individually.

It is important that you do not discuss the details of your child’s case with your child prior to the interview. If your child is scared, anxious, or curious about where they are going we encourage caregivers to let them know that they are going to a place where kids go to talk about lots of different things. It is a safe place where they can be themselves and talk to the interviewer about anything.

Upon arrival you will enter through the glass double doors and come into the lobby. There is a phone and you will dial the number next to it. Let whoever answers know that you are here for a forensic interview and an advocate will come out to greet you and guide you through the process.
Prior to the interview starting, the interviewer will come out and introduce herself and let the child get adjusted before going back. Our number one concern is making sure your child feels as comfortable as possible before beginning the interview.

Some parents wish to observe their child’s interview. However, the forensic interview is considered evidence in an investigation. Therefore, only individuals involved in the investigation can observe the interview.

While you are at the CAC, there will be paperwork that you will need to complete, and an advocate will be meeting with you to discuss any questions/concerns you may have and go over the services and resources available to you.

This is a brief overview of what to expect. Please call 706-625-3311 if you have any questions or concerns.
